Teaching Philosophy: Main Ideas
Our teaching philosophy is based on the belief that the best way of teaching and learning is to combine different methods and approaches, with special emphasis on the action-oriented approach. Our main aim is to help students develop their language and cultural skills so that they can use a foreign language in all areas of life – academic, professional, and personal. We also want these skills to support their mobility in higher education and on the international job market. Just as important as developing language skills is building competences connected with being a member of the international community, such as responsibility, independent thinking, teamwork, and the ability to express opinions with tolerance and respect for people with different views.
Different Learning Styles
We believe that people have different needs, interests, and learning styles. That is why, when designing our course and programmes, we follow these principles:
- the course content is linked to students’ needs and interests,
- teaching methods and techniques are varied and adapted to students’ needs and language level,
- we put the strongest focus on communication skills, understood as both language and intercultural competences.
Learning Aims
The learning aims for each module are achieved in a flexible way, depending on students’ needs. The general principles for all modules are:
- placing the student at the centre of the learning process,
- presenting the aims of each part of the course and of each lesson, as well as the expected learning outcomes, on a regular basis,
- adapting teaching techniques to the individual needs of students and groups, and involving students actively in the learning process,
- giving regular feedback.
